The Bayreuth Festival (Bayreuther Festspiele) is an annual opera event held in Bayreuth, Germany. It was created by Richard Wagner himself in 1876 to showcase his own work as a Gesamtkunstwerk, a total work of art. It truly needs no more publicity, since there is already 5 to 11 years of waiting time for a ticket, depending on the play. The challenge was to create a poster for the event, using only typographic elements. The result was heavily inspired by the nature of the opera, as well as the colorful aspect of the plays presented nowadays at the Bayreuther Festspiele.

Le Festival de Bayreuth (Bayreuther Festspiele) est un évènement annuel d'opéra tenu à Bayreuth, en Allemagne. Il a été créé par Richard Wagner lui-même en 1876 pour présenter son travail comme "œuvre d'art totale", un Gesamtkunstwerk. Le festival n'a guère besoin de publicité, puisqu'il faut attendre entre 5 et 11 ans pour obtenir un billet, selon la pièce. Le défi était de réaliser une affiche pour l'évènement, en ne faisant usage que d'éléments typogaphiques. Le résultat est hautement inspiré de la nature de l'opéra, ainsi que des nouvelles pièces colorées présentées au Bayreuther Festspiele.
